A team of 26 developers from the shuttered Netflix-owned studio Boss Fight Entertainment have formed a new independent studio called Sunwise Games.

The details:

  • Last year, Netflix announced that it was closing Boss Fight Entertainment just three years after it was acquired by the streaming giant in 2022. The studio was best known for developing Squid Game: Unleashed, which surpassed 10 million downloads on Google Play alone, but its success failed to save the developer from sweeping cuts across Netflix’s gaming division.
  • As announced by CEO and co-founder Irin Berry, Sunwise Games has now opened its doors with 26 of its 30 employees consisting of those who were laid off from Netflix following Boss Fight’s closure. “Sunwise is a team of 30 developers, including the 26 original Boss Fight team members, joined by additional talent chosen intentionally for their craft, creativity, and shared values,” Berry wrote. “This is a senior team with deep experience shipping, operating, and supporting games at scale. Sunwise exists to build ambitious, systems-driven games that respect players’ time and reward mastery. We are focused on clear scope, disciplined production, and creating experiences people are genuinely excited to spend time with.”
  • The studio is currently developing its first original IP, with a focus on what its founder describes as "clear scope, ethical monetization, and teams built to deliver reliably over time." Further details about the project are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
