Modern Warfare 3 has broken multiple engagement records, according to Activision
Activision has announced that the recently released Modern Warfare III has set several new records for player engagement in the rebooted Modern Warfare trilogy, though no specific numbers have been provided.
The details:
In a new post on X, the publisher thanked fans for the "historic launch" of MW3, claiming that "just two weeks in, MWIII has already set records with the highest engagement in the new Modern Warfare Trilogy!" The company states that players are putting in "more hours per player overall" than in the previous two MW games, that zombies is the "most engaging third mode in MW history," and that "campaign players [are] putting in more time per player."
The statistics are impressive, but Activision has yet to release any sales figures for MW3 like it has for previous COD titles like MW2, which became the fastest-selling title in franchise history, selling $1 billion in two weeks. Many believe that the decision to merge MW2 and MW3 into the same application known as "COD HQ," which requires players to select the games from an in-game menu, may have inflated the engagement numbers.
Despite Activision's reports of a record-breaking launch, the game's reception has been mixed, with reports claiming that MW3 was developed in just 16 months after being changed from a DLC to a full release, unbalanced operator skins causing havoc in multiplayer, and a laughably short campaign, all of which resulted in the lowest review scores in the franchise.
