MachineGames confirms it is not done with the story of Wolfenstein and planned to create a trilogy

MachineGames has stated that the story of its Wolfenstein games is not yet complete, as the series was planned to be a trilogy.

The details:

  • In NoClip’s new “The Making of Wolfenstein” documentary, studio head Jerk Gustafsson revealed that the developer has viewed the franchise as a trilogy and would like to conclude the story of protagonist “BJ” with a third game. “We have always seen this as a trilogy,” he said. “So that journey for BJ, even during those first weeks at id [Software], when we mapped out New Order, we still had the plan for at least that character. What will happen in the second one? What will happen in the third one? I think that’s important to say because, at least I hope, that we’re not done with Wolfenstein yet. We have a story to tell.”
  • Gustafsson explained that each game followed different events in BJ's journey, with the first installment, The New Order, focusing on the character's relationship with his love interest, Anya, as they fight back against the Nazis after World War II. The New Colossus, the game's sequel, delves deeper into BJ's relationships with both the resistance group and Anya, though many fans have noted that the plot feels set up for a third and final installment.
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order, released in 2014, was the debut title for Bethesda-owned MachineGames and was a reboot of the classic FPS series that was loosely related to 2009's Wolfenstein. Since then, the studio has remained focused on the IP, with the exception of developing mission packs for the Quake 1 and 2 remasters, until it released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to critical acclaim last year.
