Hideo Kojima, the legendary game director, has announced that he is working on a "next-generation action espionage game" for PlayStation called Physint, which will begin development after Death Stranding 2 is completed.

The details:

  • During the latest PlayStation State of Play, Kojima confirmed that he would be developing a brand new IP for PlayStation that would be the "culmination of my work." According to the director, the project is both an "interactive game" and a "movie at the same time, in terms of look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion and sound."

  • Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, joined Kojima in the announcement, stating he had been asking him to create a new espionage game since he left Konami and the Metal Gear franchise in 2015. “I’m excited to announce that together, as part of the PlayStation and Kojima Productions partnership, Hideo is going to take us on an exciting new adventure – one that I’ve been encouraging him to reinvent for years,” Hurst said.

  • During the livestream, we also got a full 10-minute trailer for Death Stranding 2 On The Beach, which revealed the next chapter of Kojima Productions' bizarre series and showed its main cast members, including Mad Max director George Miller. The trailer also confirmed that it is currently aiming for a 2025 release date.

  • Kojima Productions is working on a number of projects, including the upcoming DS2 and "OD" for Xbox, which will use cloud technology. Aside from a strange teaser trailer at The Game Awards, little is known about OD, but it is believed to be related to the director's canceled Silent Hills project. Kojima is also serving as a producer on A24's Death Stranding film.
