Halo Studios head Pierre Hintze has been accused of repeatedly abusing and antagonising employees, with multiple sources alleging he has been reported to HR on numerous occasions. The allegations, reported by prominent Halo insider Rebs Gaming and corroborated by former studio art director Glenn Israel, raise serious questions about the leadership of the studio as it prepares to launch Halo: Campaign Evolved on July 28.

The details:

  • Multiple current and former Halo Studios employees allegedly told insider Rebs Gaming that Hintze has been "reported to human resources multiple times by multiple employees for several different reasons," with the complaints reportedly not upheld by Microsoft upon investigation.
  • One recently departed employee who worked closely with leadership alleged they were "verbally blasted by Pierre," with Hintze reportedly telling them to "get the f*** out of the studio." The former employee described the experience as traumatising and said Microsoft HR and Microsoft Legal gave them no support.
  • Employees reportedly became so fearful of Hintze's reactions that the engineering team would withhold their work to avoid him "blowing up at them." When a team delivered a memo about work-life balance concerns, Hintze is alleged to have responded: "I don't give a f***."
  • Campaign Evolved's development was described to Rebs as "poorly planned and managed" due to Hintze, who allegedly failed to create an internal roadmap and constantly shifted priorities. Former executive producer Michael Farney, whom Hintze had reportedly described as a close friend, was allegedly berated by Hintze during the game's troubled development, subsequently demoted, and let go while on medical leave.
  • Glenn Israel, a 17-year Halo veteran and former art director, corroborated the accounts, describing "catastrophic mismanagement of Halo Campaign Evolved" and alleging he "witnessed firsthand or was personally subjected to numerous unethical and/or unlawful acts," including blacklisting, fraud, cronyism, and harassment campaigns.
  • Additional allegations target studio art director Chris Matthews, who is accused of hiring personal contacts over more qualified candidates and being reported to HR multiple times for saying inappropriate things to co-workers.
  • Sources also told Windows Central that some current Xbox producers and managers refuse to engage with Hintze without supervision, and that he has shown vocal disrespect toward other Xbox studios and teams.
