Microsoft and Halo Studios have announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, launching in 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5, marking the first time in the franchise's history that a Halo game will be available on a Sony console.

The details:

  • As revealed during the Halo World Championship, the game is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, featuring remastered 4K visuals, updated cinematics with new camera angles, re-recorded voice lines from original cast members Steve Downes (Master Chief) and Jen Taylor (Cortana), and a remastered soundtrack. However, it will not feature a PvP multiplayer mode.
  • Campaign Evolved will include all ten original missions from the original Halo, plus three brand-new prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson set before the events of the main campaign. The game will also introduce many popular additions found in future Halo titles, including nine weapons such as the Energy Sword and Battle Rifle, the ability to hijack vehicles and pilot Covenant Wraiths, and new gameplay features like sprinting and aiming down sights with all weapons.
  • The remake supports up to four-player online co-op with full cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms, as well as classic two-player split-screen couch co-op on consoles. The game will release on all platforms in 2026, including on Game Pass, with its launch expected to coincide with the series’ 25th anniversary in November.
  • While the remake focuses solely on the campaign experience with no competitive multiplayer modes, Halo Studios has confirmed that it will be altering some of the original game’s levels in order to address common fan complaints about the debut title, such as adding new dialogue to improve storytelling, slightly changing layouts of levels, and making adjustments to the Flood on levels such as the infamous “The Library.”
