Former Call of Duty producer Mark Rubin announces he is leaving the gaming industry following XDefiant's shutdown

Mark Rubin, the executive producer of Ubisoft's ill-fated shooter XDefiant, has announced that he is leaving the industry as he reflects on the game's struggles.
The details:
Just a year after its release, Ubisoft shut down the servers for XDefiant earlier this week after the first-person shooter failed to maintain a strong player base despite positive reviews from both players and critics. Late last year, the publisher announced that the San Francisco-based studio behind the game would also close, resulting in layoffs.
Posting to X, Rubin reflected on the gameβs closure, stating that he has decided to leave the gaming industry. The producer revealed the various issues and shortcomings that contributed to XDefiant's failure, such as a lack of resources, inadequate marketing, and missing features that should have been available at launch. Despite this, the shooter still holds the record for the "fastest acquisition of players in the first few weeks for a Ubisoft title," with Rubin thanking both fans and the game's developers.
Rubin has yet to reveal where he is heading next, but prior to working on XDefiant, he was notably the executive producer on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and its sequel, Modern Warfare 2, both of which are regarded as some of the most influential and beloved multiplayer shooters of all time.
