Former Activision studio Toys for Bob partners with Xbox for its next project
Toys for Bob, the studio behind Crash Bandicoot 4 that spun off from Activision last year, has announced that Xbox will publish its next game.
The details:
The indie developer announced the news in a post on X, confirming rumors that it would be collaborating with Xbox again and that its project is "very early development." "We're excited to announce that we'll be partnering with Xbox to publish our next new game," the studio wrote. "We're still very early in development, so you might not hear from us for a bit, but know that we're working hard on an experience we're so sooo inspired about. Can't wait to share more."
In March, an Xbox executive stated that the game would be "similar to games Toys for Bob has made in the past," sparking speculation that it may have returned to the Spyro or Crash franchises as a result of its decision to work with Microsoft again.
Toys for Bob was founded in 1989 and owned by Crystal Dynamics from 1993 to 2000. It later joined Activision in 2005, where it worked on Skylanders, Crash Bandicoot 4, and Spyro Reignited Trilogy and served as a support studio for Call of Duty. As part of Microsoft's cuts in January 2024, the studio underwent significant layoffs and the closure of its physical office, resulting in it going independent the following month.
