God of War Ragnarök is coming to PC, but will require a PSN account
Sony has announced that 2022’s God of War Ragnarök will be the next PlayStation title to come to PC, and the single-player game will require a PlayStation Network account to play.
The details:
The PC port was announced at PlayStation's latest State of Play, with a September 19 release date. The game will include several improvements, such as an unlocked frame rate, upscaling via DLSS, FSR, and XESS, as well as the Valhalla DLC.
Despite the lack of an online multiplayer mode, both the accompanying blog post and the game's Steam store page state that players will need a PSN account to access it. This appears to be a requirement for any future PlayStation PC releases, as the message "Sony Interactive Entertainment games for PC require an account for PlayStation Network" can be seen at the beginning of the reveal.
Previously, PlayStation PC ports such as 2018's God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn did not require any type of account, but Sony was forced to cancel plans to add the requirement to Helldivers 2 and make it optional for Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut following recent backlash. However, Sony is now requiring players to have a PSN account for Until Dawn's upcoming PC port, which is also a single-player release.
