Five Lord of the Rings games to be released by March 2024

Embracer Group has revealed that it has five Lord of the Rings (LOTR) titles in the works to release within the 2023–24 fiscal year.

The details:

• In Embracer’s recently released financial report for Q3 2022, the company revealed its sales growth compared to Q3 2021, alongside plans for future releases.
• The report confirmed that its external partners are working on a total of five LOTR games, with a film also in development. The holding company acquired Middle-Earth Enterprises in August 2022, including IP rights to the LOTR and The Hobbit franchises. The games are planned for release in the 2023–24 fiscal year, which ends in March 2024, although there’s no information regarding the movie’s targeted release date.
• Embracer’s studios currently have 224 projects in the works, including 31 AAA titles, with 19 scheduled to release before March 2026. Out of those 224 titles, 94 will arrive during the 2023–24 fiscal year, with 58 yet to be announced. Dead Island 2, Payday 3, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 are among the 94 and are scheduled to release during 2023.

• Twisted Metal will reportedly receive a reboot that could feature on-foot gameplay and VR functionality. The series is getting a TV show planned for release later this year, so the rumored title could be revealed closer to the show’s release date.
• A Square Enix producer has hinted that the team behind Final Fantasy Tactics could be working on the previously leaked remaster of the 1997 game. The existence of the project was leaked back in 2021 when a user accessed the database for NVIDIA’s GeForce Now service.
• 2023’s Call of Duty was initially expected to be "premium DLC," with Activision choosing to skip releasing a full title for the first time since Call of Duty 2. According to sources close to Insider Gaming, the project has since reverted to a full game, with Sledgehammer Games leading the development and other Call of Duty studios lending a hand.
