Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV Online is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026, alongside announcing its next major expansion, Evercold, for early 2027.

The details:

  • Producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed the Switch 2 version during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 keynote, marking the first time the MMO will be playable on a Nintendo platform. The Switch 2 version will be in line with all other platforms in regard to content, offering the base game and all of its expansions.
  • However, the Switch 2 version will require its own separate subscription, even for players who already pay for the game elsewhere. Yoshida states that this structure was agreed upon after “many months” of discussion with Nintendo, with existing players on other platforms being offered a 50% discount on all new Switch 2 subscriptions. FF14 will also not require an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
  • Prior to the game’s full launch, Square Enix plans to offer around one month of free early access, which it plans to use to test overall server stability for the platform.
