Final Fantasy IX Remake may arrive next year, leaker claims

Reputable leaker NateTheHate has claimed that the long-rumored Final Fantasy IX remake will not be released in 2025, but may instead arrive next year.
The details:
It has been claimed in recent years that Square Enix is planning a remake of 2000's FF9, which has become one of the franchise's most popular titles among fans. It has been stated that the remake will differ from the FF7 Remake series in that it will retain the original's classic gameplay while featuring revamped visuals that go beyond what could be considered a remaster.
NateTheHate, a well-known leaker who accurately predicted the Switch 2's reveal, has now claimed that the remake is "active development," but will not be released this year. However, despite not being on Square Enix's current release schedule, it could arrive sometime next year, five years after its existence was revealed in the high-profile GeForce Now leak in 2021.
The closest fans have gotten to Square Enix discussing the alleged remake was in September, when FF14 director Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida stated that the MMORPG's collaboration with FF9 did not necessarily imply a remake was in the works. When asked which entry in the franchise he would like to work on if given the opportunity, Yoshida acknowledged that fans had been asking for a remake of the game, but explained that it would take multiple releases to complete, similarly to FF7.
