Ubisoft will focus on live service and open-world games as it continues to cut costs

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has stated that the publisher intends to focus on both live service and open-world titles "year after year" during a difficult period for the company.
The details:
During Ubisoft's latest financial report, the company was asked about future development plans. Guillemot provided insight into its development pipeline, stating that it would continue to create live service titles like Rainbow Six Siege as well as Assassin's Creed-style open-world games, which appear to be its most successful releases. “We have been investing significantly for a big pipeline of products for the coming years along our two verticals, [these] being open-world action adventure as well as ‘Game as a Service’-native experiences,” Guillemot said. “And that’s what we want to deliver year after year.”
The CEO went on to say that the company is preparing for Assassin's Creed Shadows to have a "big launch." While no exact pre-order numbers were provided, it was stated that Shadows is "in-line" with Odyssey, the franchise's second largest launch after Valhalla.
Ubisoft also has "big plans" for Rainbow Six Siege, which is rumored to be a major overhaul of the decade-old shooter. The publisher has also confirmed Anno 117: Pax Romana and The Division: Resurgence are still on track to release next year, with more information on future projects coming in May.
Ubisoft is currently undergoing a cost-cutting program, which has resulted in the cancellation of several projects as well as layoffs at its studios worldwide, including the closure of Ubisoft Leamington. While the program is "progressing well," Guillemot says the company intends to keep cutting costs into the next fiscal year, "going beyond the initial target by a significant margin."
