It has been announced that FX is creating a TV adaptation of Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, starring Rob Mac.
The details:
The show, which will be released via Hulu and Disney+, is being produced by Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor and co-creator Rob Mac alongside Alien Earth creator Noah Hawley, with the former set to also star in the series. “Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” Mac said in a statement. “Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support.”
FX intends to create an anthology series, with each season of the show exploring different themes with new characters while maintaining an underlying narrative structure. It’s currently unknown if any of the seasons will be based on an existing Far Cry game, but given the popularity of characters such as Far Cry 3’s Vaas, it’s likely that there will be some crossover.
This isn’t the first live-action adaptation of Far Cry, with infamous filmmaker Uwe Boll releasing “Far Cry” in 2008 to negative reviews. The film was based off of the original 2004 game and was a box office bomb, bringing in less than $750,000 in revenue.
