EA going all-in on Battlefield 6 and looking to mimic Activision's Call of Duty model

As things stand, Activision's Call of Duty is hanging on to its FPS stranglehold thanks to a resurgence in players returning to Warzone since the relaunch of Verdansk, but EA chiefs are hoping to replicate Activision's model in a bid to topple them from their throne.

The details:

  • EA say they are expecting to bring in 100 million players to the franchise after Battlefield 6 launches, according to a report by Ars Technica, but even DICE insiders feel this is a bold claim.
  • It's reported that EA plans to achieve this by copying Activision's Call of Duty model, with the campaign and multiplayer offerings being premium, but a new Battle Royale mode to be offered for free.
  • Industry insiders are sceptical that a second attempt at Battle Royale for the Battlefield franchise will be able to release Activision's grip on the market.
