Dauntless developer Phoenix Labs announces layoffs and project cancellations
Phoenix Labs, the studio behind Fae Farm and Dauntless, has announced another round of layoffs, with projects other than the live-service titles being canceled.
The details:
The studio announced the restructuring on LinkedIn, stating that it was the "last resort" for it to survive. βWe are reorganizing Phoenix Labs to focus on our best-in-class live service titles, Dauntless and Fae Farm, and serving their communities,β the developer said. βThis unfortunately means canceling work on all other projects at the studio, which will impact many of our colleagues immediately. We are giving notices to everyone whose roles are affected.β
According to former principal engineer Kris Morness, approximately 140 employees have been affected, and one of the canceled projects was only a month away from being announced.
Phoenix Labs has gone through two rounds of layoffs in the past year since its departure from Garena, reducing its workforce by 9% in May 2023 and cutting another 34 jobs in December. Despite the layoffs, the company stated that its projects were unaffected at the time.
