Phoenix Labs, the developer of Dauntless and the indie life sim Fae Farm, has announced the layoff of 34 employees.

The details:

  • After several former employees shared the news of the layoffs on LinkedIn, the company confirmed the cuts in a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, detailing that its "publishing, HR, IT, and shared services teams" would be affected. "After a rigorous review we made the decision to change the structure of our support teams, and we have made the tough decision to reduce our workforce by a total of 34 people, across our publishing, HR, IT, and shared services teams," Phoenix Labs said. "We thank each of the affected team members who have helped to build Phoenix Labs into what it is today. Their impact will be missed and live on through everything the studio does moving forward."

  • The company also stated that, despite the job cuts, its ongoing projects are still on track as its game teams were "unaffected," including updates to Dauntless and Fae Farm's Coasts of Croakia DLC, which will be released on December 14.

  • This is the studio's second wave of layoffs this year, with 9% of its workforce laid off in May as it chose to focus on "fewer development projects." These job cuts occurred when it returned to operating independently after its management secured financial backing to buy the company back from Garena.
