CD PROJEKT has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has remained its main source of income as it surpasses 35 million global sales in just under five years.

The details:

  • Cyberpunk 2077 has officially crossed the 35 million sales mark, according to CD Projekt’s latest financial report. This milestone, reached in less than five years since the game’s disastrous launch in December 2020, means Cyberpunk 2077 has outperformed The Witcher 3, which took nearly six years to achieve 30 million copies sold.
  • Despite Cyberpunk 2077’s release being marked by technical issues, the removal of the game from the PlayStation Store, widespread refunds, and lawsuits from investors, CDPR has saved its reputation over the years with several major updates. Almost five years after launch, the company revealed in its financial results that Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty DLC remain its main source of revenue.
  • In the studio update, Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski highlighted the franchise’s “enduring power” and stated that surpassing 35 million sales “enables us to be even more audacious about charting its future.” Work on the sequel, formerly codenamed Project Orion, is now underway under the direction of CDPR’s new North American studios based in Boston and Vancouver.
