The Witcher cooperative multiplayer game Project Sirius, being developed by CDPR-acquired studio The Molasses Flood, has been hit with a second round of layoffs since the project was announced in 2022. Nine developers have been let go, with a further nine being moved to other projects within the studio. CD Projekt Red said the cuts were made "to reflect the project's needs at this stage of development."

The details:

  • The nine departures represent more than 20% of the current Project Sirius team. A broader shift in development strategy is also underway, though no specifics were given.
  • Project Sirius was first revealed in 2022 as a single-player and cooperative multiplayer Witcher game. It was rebooted in 2023 after 29 developers were laid off, with the project going largely quiet since.
  • Despite the turbulence, Kotaku reports the project had been going relatively well following changes made in spring 2026. The team recently hired Destiny 2 narrative veteran Kwan Perng as its new lead writer.
  • CD Projekt Red has been approached for comment.
