Take-Two Interactive has announced that development on Borderlands 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 has been paused in order to improve the finished game on other platforms.

The details:

  • During Take-Two’s latest financial report, it was spotted that the Switch 2 port was absent entirely from the presentation, suggesting that it had been cancelled internally. The publisher has now issued a statement confirming that development has been “paused” to prioritize other platforms. “We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU,” a Take-Two spokesperson told Variety. “Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game. We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25’ coming out and ‘WWE 2K26’ [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”
  • Last September, the Switch 2 version of the FPS was delayed just one week before its planned October 3 release date, with Gearbox stating that it needed additional time to work on the port to get it up to a suitable standard for a release. Until now, nothing has been shared regarding progress on the port or what the technical issues were.
  • Following the launch of Borderlands 4 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the game was met with widespread criticism due to a variety of technical problems across all platforms, including poor frame rates and crashes. Despite several updates, some players still encountered issues, resulting in a response from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who defended the title.
