Update: Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will arrive in "early 2024," with the leaked version said to be an "early development" build.
An unannounced 20th Anniversary Edition of Ubisoft's classic Beyond Good & Evil appeared on the Xbox Store overnight, with some players managing to play the title before it was swiftly removed.
The details:
- The new version of the action-adventure game was accidentally made available on the Xbox Store, along with a description of its improvements and an array of screenshots. It will feature “improved graphics, controls, and audio, along with brand-new autosave and cross-save features,” as well as a new speedrun mode and updated achievement support.
- After fans discovered the game, Microsoft quickly removed it from the store; however, this was after some discovered that it was playable via Ubisoft+, the publisher's own subscription service. It is no longer available, but those who downloaded it can still play it and have begun uploading footage and images online.
- It is currently unknown when the updated version will be released, but Ubisoft is expected to make an announcement at The Game Awards on December 7, and it will most likely be available immediately after.
- Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development hell, despite being announced in 2017 but teased nearly a decade earlier. Its developer, Ubisoft Montpellier, has gone through a number of internal changes as a result of management issues, and the project's creative director, Emile Morel, passed away earlier this year, just months after taking over the role.
More gaming news:
- Bethesda has started responding to negative Starfield reviews on Steam, attempting to persuade players to give the game another chance by justifying some of its design decisions.
- Ubisoft is reportedly targeting a February 2024 release date for Skull and Bones after the game was pushed back a total of six times since its reveal in 2017. The pirate title was believed to be unofficially canceled after little information about the game has been provided over the years.
