Bethesda has released yet another version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, this time upgrading the Nintendo Switch port to take advantage of its successor's new hardware.

The details:

  • Released alongside a new gameplay trailer, Skyrim is now available for the Switch 2, providing a much smoother experience on the system compared to the original Switch 1 version. The port, which uses the content-packed Anniversary Edition as a foundation, is now available for $59.99 on the Nintendo eShop as a standalone purchase or free for owners of the Anniversary Edition for the original Switch. Meanwhile, fans with a standard copy of Skyrim on Switch can upgrade for an additional $19.99.
  • The upgrade brings several performance boosts, including faster load times, improved resolution, and more consistent frame rates, as well as support for the Joy-Con 2โ€™s mouse controls and Amiibos. All of the content from the previous Switch 1 port, such as the exclusive Legend of Zelda crossover items, is also available alongside hundreds of Creation Club items.
  • Originally releasing in November 2011, Skyrim is regarded as one of the greatest RPGs of all time, prompting it to be re-released on new platforms with new content, graphical upgrades, and more over the years, leading to memes about Bethesdaโ€™s seemingly endless ports. However, it looks like weโ€™ll be playing it a little longer, as Todd Howard has stated recently that The Elder Scrolls 6 is "still a long way off," though development is an "everyday thing."
