Ubisoft has reassured fans that the long-delayed Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in active development, despite a sweeping company-wide reorganization that has seen multiple projects canceled and hundreds of staff laid off.

The details:

  • Creative director Fawzi Mesmar has issued his first public statement on the game since Ubisoft announced its new “Creative Houses” structure, confirming that both his team and Beyond Good & Evil 2 are “unaffected by the recent changes.” Myself, my team and our project Beyond Good and Evil 2 are unaffected by the recent changes,” he wrote on LinkedIn. “I would direct you to the official press release for more information around the latest organizational structure. Needless to say, I am saddened by the cancellations that have affected my colleagues in other parts of Ubisoft and the industry. I urge everyone—myself included—to offer support whenever and however they can during these times. We remain committed and focused on delivering a remarkable game for our players to enjoy.”
  • Ubisoft’s recent restructuring split its development operations into five Creative Houses, each grouping several franchises by genre and audience. The Beyond Good & Evil series has been placed into Creative House 4, which the publisher describes as being dedicated to narrative-driven, fantasy-oriented IPs.
  • Originally announced in 2008 and re-revealed in 2017, Beyond Good & Evil 2 has yet to receive a release window, with development further complicated by the 2020 departure of series creator Michel Ancel from Ubisoft and the death of creative lead Emil Morel. Despite the setbacks, the publisher has stated that the project remains a “priority” as it continues to focus on large-scale open world titles.
