Amazon reportedly working on a Tomb Raider TV show

Emmy award-winning Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge is allegedly working with Amazon to create a new TV series based on the game series.

The details:

• Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that Waller-Bridge will write for the show and serve as an executive producer, but will not star in the series. This information follows a report that Waller-Bridge renewed her deal with Amazon for another three years, with her serving as an executive producer for an adaptation of the novel "Sign Here" for the e-commerce giant.
• Former Amazon Studios head of comedy and drama Ryan Andolina, former Amazon Studios head of overall deals Amanda Greenblatt, and dj2's Dmitri M. Johnson will also executive produce the show. Andolina and Greenblatt left Amazon Studios in late 2022, but they have since established their own production company and signed a deal with Amazon.
• This report comes just a month after Amazon announced that it would publish the new major entry into the Tomb Raider videogame franchise. The new single-player title is being developed by Crystal Dynamics using Unreal Engine 5 and is currently in early development. Amazon claims in the news post that it will be the "biggest, most expansive Tomb Raider game to date."
• The show is still in the development stage, and there is minimal information available, such as who will play Lara Croft and what the plot will be.

What else is happening at Crystal Dynamics?

• Crystal Dynamics recently announced that Marvel's Avengers will be shut down in September 2023. A final update for the game will be released on March 31, 2023, allowing all players to receive all cosmetics from the in-game store for free before the game itself is removed from digital storefronts on September 30.
• A reboot of the beloved Perfect Dark series is in the works, with Crystal Dynamics joining the project as co-developers in 2021. The leading studio, The Initiative, was set up by Microsoft in 2018 and is headed by Darrell Gallagher, known for his work on the Tomb Raider revival in 2013. Since its original announcement, many believed the development could’ve been in jeopardy due to Embracer Group’s acquisition of Crystal Dynamics; however, it has been confirmed that the development is still ongoing and coming along "extremely well."
