Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has announced yet another round of layoffs, marking the studio's third wave of job cuts this year.

The details:

  • Crystal Dynamics confirmed on Thursday that just 30 employees across various departments and projects have been laid off as the studio restructures "the company and business for [its] next generation.โ€ The developer stated that the cuts were made in order to โ€œoptimizeโ€ the development of its next Tomb Raider project and future titles, adding that the decision reflects the "realities of the industry."
  • This latest round follows similar cuts in August 2025 that occurred shortly after Microsoft's cancellation of the Perfect Dark reboot, which Crystal Dynamics was co-developing with now-defunct Xbox studio The Initiative. Back in March, the studio let go of 17 employees in order to "better align [its] current business needs and the studio's future success."
  • Currently, Crystal Dynamics is developing a new Tomb Raider game in partnership with Amazon Games, but little has been revealed about the project since its announcement in 2022. Since being acquired from Square Enix by Embracer, the developer has only worked on smaller projects, assisting in the creation of Aspyrโ€™s remasters of the original Tomb Raider series.
