Activision has announced that over 27,000 Call of Duty accounts were banned over the weekend for cheating as a result of recent Ricochet anti-cheat updates.

The details:

  • Team Ricochet confirmed the tens of thousands of bans in a statement to Charlie Intel, with additional ban waves expected in the future. "#TeamRICOCHET identified and banned over 27,000 accounts over the weekend through a series of upgraded detection systems," Activision said. "The team is progressing on a new set of security updates and anticipates more ban waves to come."

  • The ban wave coincided with Modern Warfare III's free multiplayer trial weekend, which followed the release of the game's third season last week. Free weekends have notoriously resulted in an influx of cheaters in previous COD titles, worsening the game's already-existing cheating epidemic.

  • Ricochet, COD's anti-cheat introduced in 2021, has received numerous upgrades over the last few years. This includes informing players when a cheater is banned in their lobby, killing those using inaccessible weapons, and even making cheaters "hallucinate" by creating fake enemies that aimbots and wall hacks can detect.
