Xbox consoles have jumped in price by up to 50% in Europe and the UK, Microsoft announces

Microsoft's latest Xbox price increases have gone into effect in Europe and the UK, with the full scale of the hikes only becoming clear as they landed. The Series X now costs €799.99 in Europe and £669.99 in the UK, while the entry-level Series S has climbed to €499.99 and £429.99 respectively.

The details:

• Microsoft announced US price increases on June 25 but did not disclose European or UK pricing at the time. Consumers only found out the full extent of the increases when they took effect on August 1.
• In the UK, the 512GB Series S rose by £130 from £299.99 to £429.99. The 1TB Series X disc edition rose by £170, landing at £669.99. In Europe, the equivalent increases are €150 and €200.
• The percentage increases range from approximately 34% to 50% depending on the model. Microsoft has attributed the rises to surging component and memory costs, which it says have more than doubled and could increase further into 2027 due to broader RAM supply pressures.
• This is the third Xbox price increase in 13 months. The moves come as Xbox attempts to reduce the financial losses it has been absorbing on hardware, with the division having reported a $1.7 billion revenue decline in its most recent fiscal year.
