During the early access period for Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft released a major patch that addressed game-breaking bugs. Unfortunately, players were forced to restart their saves for the patch to take effect, and Ubisoft's apology has elicited mixed reactions from fans.

The details:

  • Star Wars Outlaws went live on August 27 for those who pre-ordered the $110 Gold and $130 Ultimate Editions, with the full release set for August 30. Yesterday, some early access players on PS5 received an email from Ubisoft asking them to update their game to download a new patch, but that they would also need to "start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended" or they would "unfortunately face issues and progression blockers."

  • As expected, players were frustrated about having to restart their save after hours of progress, especially after paying a higher price for the game. As an apology, Ubisoft has offered to provide those affected with an in-game trinket for their ship, as well as 100 Ubisoft Connect credits, which can be used to unlock various rewards in Ubisoft games. The publisher hopes that the compensation will make the new playthroughs "a little more special."

  • Reactions to the apology has been mixed, with some baffled by the decision to reward players with points that can be easily earned through in-game challenges and a small cosmetic item, stating that it feels like they have paid to access a beta test. Others don't seem to mind as much, with many arguing that early access was more of a free bonus, with the Gold and Ultimate Editions costing more for their season pass and other content.
