Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that the company is working on multiple new entries in the Assassin's Creed and Far Cry franchises amid its major restructuring.

The details:

  • Speaking to Variety, Guillemot confirmed that the company’s Tencent-backed subsidiary Vantage Studios will oversee both franchises going forward and that development has already ramped up. "We have a solid pipeline underway across Vantage Studios. Under the Assassin's Creed brand, several titles are in development, spanning both single-player and multiplayer experiences, with the ambition to further grow a community that exceeded 30 million players last year,” he said. "On Far Cry, anticipation is high, and we currently have two very promising projects in development."
  • The announcement comes following Ubisoft's “major reset” last month, which saw the publisher split its teams into “Creative Houses” to focus on different types of projects. The restructuring has already resulted in the cancellation of six games and the delay of seven more, as well as two studio closures and a proposed elimination of up to 200 jobs at its Paris headquarters.
  • Guillemot has now responded to backlash from employees over the sweeping changes, which has prompted strike action, stating that the decisions were “guided by [the] reality” of what it takes to create AAA games, and that he believes in “more transparency and open dialogue with our teams.” “I fully understand the legitimate concerns of our teams in France and around the world,” the CEO said. “Ubisoft is going through a major phase of transformation, affecting our organization, operations, and culture. Changes of this scale naturally raise questions and create tension, particularly when they impact people’s routines, and I recognize that.”
