Stop Killing Games confirms 1.3 million verified signatures, EU Commission submission coming next month
Stop Killing Games

The Stop Killing Games initiative has reached a major milestone, with a confirmed 1.3 million signatures on its petition to bring the issue of game preservation to the European Commission.

The details:

  • Founded in 2024 by YouTuber Ross Scott (also known as Accursed Farms), Stop Killing Games is a movement that was created in response to Ubisoft's decision to shut down the online servers for The Crew, leaving the title unplayable due to a lack of an offline mode. The initiative calls for legislation that would prevent publishers from leaving games unplayable following the end of their official support and require them to provide reasonable means for titles to continue functioning without ongoing publisher support, such as offline game modes or hostable servers.
  • As shared by Stop Killing Games director general Moritz Katzner, the initiative accumulated 1,294,188 valid signatures across the European Union. Out of the over 1.4 million signatures originally gathered, approximately 89 percent were verified as legitimate, making it one of the highest verification rates among EU Citizens' Initiatives.
  • Scott confirmed the news in a video, sharing that the next phase involves officially submitting the petition to the European Commission in Brussels. Its expected that the submission will be complete by the end of February, with updates regarding the petition to follow.
