Stop Killing Games confirms 97% of petition signatures are valid so far, making European Commission hearing very likely

Game preservation movement Stop Killing Games has shared that 97% of signatures during initial reviews of its petition to discuss the topic of preserving online video games in European Parliament have been approved as valid, making the hearing very likely.

The details:

  • Following the shutdown of Ubisoft's online racing game The Crew last year, YouTuber Ross Scott (also known as Accursed Farms) launched an initiative to force publishers to find ways to keep games playable after official support has ended. While support for the Stop Killing Games movement initially dipped, it increased significantly in early to mid-2025, resulting in over 1.6 million combined signatures across its UK and EU petitions, as well as support from politicians.
  • Months after the EU petition was closed in July, Stop Killing Games has posted a positive update on Reddit, confirming that 97% of votes have been verified across multiple countries. This is a small sample size because the vote checking process takes about three months, but if the validity rate remains stable, the movement will easily exceed the one million votes required to be reviewed by the European Commission.
  • With the process underway, the SKG team has shifted its focus to future preparations, including "countering misinformation and industry lobbying," reaching out to members of parliament and the commission, and other "behind the scenes" activities. “Some of this work must remain behind the scenes for now—past attempts to undermine the initiative have shown us the risks of being too open. But rest assured: important groundwork is being laid,” the Reddit post reads.
