Hideaki Itsuno, the director of Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma, has confirmed that his new studio, LightSpeed Japan, is working on a new AAA Japanese action title.

The details:

  • At GDC 2025 (via Gemastu), the former Capcom veteran revealed details about his upcoming project at LightSpeed Japan Studio. According to Itsuno, the game will be designed in a Japanese style with the goal of creating an action experience with unique gameplay mechanics that will "make players say 'I've never seen that in a game before.'"

  • Itsuno was appointed as the head of LightSpeed Japan in November 2024, his departure from Capcom in August after more than 30 years with the company. The developer, a subsidiary of Tencent's LightSpeed Studios, announced its "original IP initiative," with a focus on developing its own cross-platform titles as an independent studio.

  • Itsuno has built a loyal following over the years, having directed cult classic fighter Power Stone, the Dragon's Dogma franchise, and taking over the Devil May Cry series after its underwhelming second installment. Aside from his work as a director, he has also worked as a designer on other hit franchises such as Darkstalkers and Street Fighter, and has a track record of developing unique mechanics that have inspired countless other non-Capcom games, such as Final Fantasy XVI's combat.
