Skyrim finally receives performance and quality modes on the Nintendo Switch 2, addressing frame rate issues
Bethesda

Bethesda has released an update for the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Skyrim: Anniversary Edition, introducing quality and performance modes that address the technical issues reported by players following its launch.

The details:

  • Bethesda released the updated port of Skyrim on the Switch 2 back in December, introducing various improvements including support for the Joy-Con 2’s mouse and motion controls, a higher resolution, Amiibo support, and all of the game’s official Creation Club content. However, criticisms were immediately leveled at the frame rate of the port, which appeared to be capped at 30 FPS.
  • The new 1.2 patch for the game now allows players to select between “Prioritize Visuals” and "Prioritize Performance.” Prioritizing visuals keeps the 30FPS limit and intends to provide a more stable experience, while the performance mode increases the limit to a smoother 60 FPS but sacrifices some graphical details.
  • The update also addresses an assortment of bugs, glitches, crashes, and performance in certain in-game locations where players reported unexpected frame rate drops. Many fixes were also directed at inconsistencies when playing the game with the Joy-Con mouse controls, such as missing UI elements and perks failing to function correctly.
