Sea of Thieves co-developer Radical Forge hit with layoffs
Radical Forge, a UK-based indie studio that has worked on Gang Beasts and Sea of Thieves, has confirmed it is restructuring.
The details:
The developer confirmed the layoffs in a statement posted to X, explaining that the decision was necessary "to continue operating in the current challenging market". “We have announced some restructuring at Radical Forge to continue operating in the current challenging market,” the company said. “This will mean that there will be a handful of people whose roles or skill sets are no longer needed on current or upcoming projects, and their contracts will end earlier than anticipated.”
Radical Forge described the situation as "heartbreaking" and added that it would do "everything we can" to assist those affected in finding new jobs elsewhere. A total of six positions have reportedly been eliminated.
The studio was founded in 2017 and has contributed to the development of Zombie Army 4, Rust: Console Edition, and Jurassic World Aftermath. It released its first original IP, Bright Paw, in 2020, and is currently working on its self-published farming title, Southfield, which will be unaffected by the layoffs.
More gaming news:
Toys for Bob, the studio behind recent Spyro and Crash games, has announced that it will go independent after nearly two decades with Activision.
Embracer Group is reportedly in the process of selling Borderlands studio Gearbox to an unknown buyer. Last year, it was reported that several third parties were interested in acquiring the developer.
