The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has confirmed that Roblox is under investigation, but the full extent of the investigation is unknown at this time.

The details:

  • As reported by Bloomberg, the SEC confirmed in response to a Freedom of Information Act request that Roblox is involved in an "active and ongoing investigation." "We have confirmed with Division of Enforcement staff that there are responsive emails between Enforcement staff referencing Roblox and that these emails are a part of an active and ongoing investigation," an SEC spokesperson told Bloomberg.

  • However, the SEC has stated that it is unable to share information about Roblox's involvement because it would "harm the ongoing enforcement proceedings." The situation is thought to be related to a report published in October 2024 that accused Roblox of misleading its investors by using false player numbers and claimed that the platform was still rife with inappropriate content accessible to children.

  • Roblox has attempted to better protect its younger user base in recent years by implementing stronger parental controls and policies for underage players, but the platform remains widely regarded as generally unsafe. YouTube channel People Make Games released a video in 2021 alleging that the company exploited young players to create games for very little revenue, which Roblox has since denied, referring to it as a "gift."
