Sabotage Studio announced via Sea of Stars' official Twitter account that over 250,000 copies of the game had been sold just a week after its August 29 release. This was notably the studio's original sales projection for the entire year. The game is also free for Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, implying that its player count is likely to be much higher than expected.
Sabotage previously confirmed that 100,000 of those sales occurred on the game's release day, with the game's Chrono Trigger-inspired art style and gameplay attracting a dedicated following since its reveal in 2020. A demo was also released ahead of its release, putting it on the radar of even more classic RPG fans.
So far, Sea of Stars has been a huge hit with fans and critics alike, with many praising its modern take on the traditional JRPG system while retaining the graphics, music, and overall charm of Super Nintendo-era titles from developers like Square, Camelot, and Enix.
