Nintendo has successfully won its lawsuit against Jesse Keighin, known online as "Every Game Guru," who repeatedly taunted the company while streaming pirated Switch games before their official release.

The details:

  • Back in November 2024, it was spotted that Nintendo had filed a lawsuit against Keighin, who had been accused of streaming Switch games more than 50 times since 2022, using pirated ROMs and circumvention tools to access titles before they became available to the general public. The most recent game he streamed before the lawsuit was filed was Mario & Luigi: Brothership, which was released earlier that month.
  • In response to legal action from Nintendo, Keighin taunted the Japanese gaming giant, posting on social media that he had "a thousand burner channels" to stream from and could "do this all day." When confronted by Nintendo's lawyers, the pirate continued to taunt the company, writing, "You might run a corporation. I run the streets” on his Facebook account.
  • As reported by TorrentFreak, a Colorado federal court has now granted Nintendo's request for a default judgment after Keighin failed to respond to the lawsuit, ordering him to pay $17,500 in damages for copyright infringement. However, the court rejected some of Nintendo's broader requests, including a demand to destroy all circumvention devices, ruling it was "unclear" and "unreasonable" since most emulation tools are software available online. It is also noted that despite Nintendo being able to seek over $1 million in compensation, the company was satisfied with the lower amount instead.
