Netflix's live-action Assassin’s Creed series has been greenlit

Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise five years after it was reported to have been in development.

The details:

• As reported by Variety, the series will be produced by Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing). According to the creators, it will follow the story of several characters and is “a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions.”
• In a joint statement, Patino and Wiener shared that the series is about “power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance,” but more importantly, “the value of human connection, across cultures, across time. And it’s about what we stand to lose as a species when those connections break.” “We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007,” the pair said. “Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us.”
• A live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed was originally confirmed to have been in the works back in 2020, but little had been shared about the project since. The series has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Die Hard writer Jeb Stuart departing the project in 2023 due to differing visions.
