Fallout 5 has reportedly been officially greenlit, marking a major shift in focus for Xbox and Bethesda’s future roadmap. This follows on the back of news that Bethesda are working on several Fallout titles. While details remain scarce, the project appears to be in its early stages, and its development has reportedly come at the cost of another ambitious title.
The details:
Fallout 5 is in development, but it’s unclear who is leading it. Bethesda Game Studios is currently tied up with Starfield DLC and The Elder Scrolls VI, so another team may be taking the reins.
ZeniMax Online’s sci-fi MMO, “Project Blackbird,” has been cancelled to redirect funding toward Fallout 5. Blackbird had been in development since 2018 but was deemed a bigger financial risk than investing in an established IP.
A Fallout 3 remaster may arrive sooner, with renewed interest in the franchise driven by Amazon’s successful Fallout TV series and anticipation for The Elder Scrolls VI continuing to build.
