Minecraft movie images leak online following recent Jack Black controversy

Images of a style guide for the upcoming Minecraft movie have surfaced online, just days after Jack Black's Tenacious D controversy, providing fans with their first look at the actor as protagonist Steve.

The details:

  • The images first appeared on the infamous imageboard 4chan, depicting Black as Steve in the character's trademark blue shirt and jeans outfit, wielding a pickaxe that resembled its in-game counterpart. Other images in the guide include some strange blocky pink and purple sheep, a bee, and the iconic Creeper with a grassy texture.

  • Alongside the images, text indicates that they are part of a "packaging guide" created by Minecraft developer Mojang for marketing purposes. A plot summary is also included, in which Steve, a resident of the Overworld, is rescued by "four fresh visitors to his world" after being captured by a new character, the evil Malgosha.

  • Some questioned the leak, but takedown notices have already been issued for posts and videos featuring the images on X and YouTube, effectively confirming their legitimacy.

  • The leak comes shortly after a controversy erupted between Jack Black and Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass after the latter made a comment about the recent assassination attempt made against Donald Trump. This prompted Black to announce that the band's world tour had been canceled, and given 4chan's involvement, it's possible that the movie leak was retaliation against the decision.
