Former Chibi-Robo! developers reveal spiritual successor koROBO
Tiny Wonder Studio, founded by developers who worked on the GameCube cult classic Chibi-Robo!, has announced that it is developing a spiritual successor dubbed “koROBO”.
The details:
Tiny Wonder's upcoming title, koROBO, has been announced with a new trailer (via Gematsu) and a Kickstarter campaign that will launch on July 22 for those who want to support the project. Similar to Chibi-Robo!, it will follow a small robot owned by a 10-year-old boy as it explores the family home and performs various tasks such as watering plants and cleaning up.
Whereas in the original title, Chibi-Robo ran on a limited battery that players had to manage by charging it with a plug attached to the character, koROBO will rely on solar charging via patches of sunlight. Players will also be able to collect various upgrades and abilities to help them defeat a mysterious opponent who can travel through time.
koROBO does not yet have a release date, but its developer has confirmed that it will be available on PC and consoles if it secures enough funding.
Tiny Wonder Studio was founded following the closure of Skip in 2020, which had collaborated with Nintendo on a number of projects, including the Japan-only titles Captain Rainbow and GiFTPiA. Although Chibi-Robo! was not a commercial success at first, it has since gained a dedicated fanbase and is regarded as one of the GameCube's best and most unique releases.
