Limited Run Games has asked Nintendo to temporarily remove its recently released collection of Gex titles from the Switch eShop, as there are major compatibility issues when played on a Switch 2.

The details:

  • This week, Limited Run released the Gex Trilogy, a collection of all three mainline games in the 90s cult-classic platforming franchise. The trilogy was released on Xbox One and Series X/S, PS4 and 5, PC, and the Switch and Switch 2, though several technical issues were reported regarding the Switch 2 release.

  • While most titles for the original Switch work fine on its successor, Limited Run’s releases that use its in-house Carbon Engine were listed on Nintendo’s official compatibility list as having various issues. However, the console’s latest firmware update appears to have fixed all of the game except the Gex Trilogy.

  • As a result, the company has requested that Nintendo remove the game from the eShop until its patch can be approved, with the process having been delayed due to the Juneteenth holiday in the US. “Since we do not have clarity on when Gex Trilogy on Switch 2 will be fixed in firmware, we submitted our own patch last week to correct the issue,” Limited Run wrote on social media. “Due to the Juneteenth holiday, patch approval this week is delayed, but we expect to be able to issue the patch early next week. In the meantime, we have asked Nintendo to remove the game from the Switch 2 eShop. Thank you for your patience as we work with Nintendo to resolve these issues.”
