Nintendo has announced that the long-awaited sequel to 2003’s Kirby Air Ride, Kirby Air Riders, will be released in November as a Switch 2 exclusive.

The details:

  • As announced during its Direct showcase, Kirby Air Riders will launch on November 20 with a $70 price tag. In the presentation, director and franchise creator Masahiro Sakurai revealed that the game came to be following a “strong request” from fans of its GameCube predecessor and that it is being developed in collaboration with Bandai Namco, who has previously contributed to the Smash Bros. series.
  • Sakurai also shared tons of new details about the game, including new modes, abilities, and characters, with City Trial and Air Ride returning as its main game modes. Each “rider” has unique stats and abilities, with the cast consisting of various popular Kirby characters such as Meta Knight, King Dee Dee Dee, and even standard enemies such as Cappy.
  • The original Kirby Air Ride was met with mixed reception upon launch due to its lack of depth and overly simple gameplay compared to other major racing games at the time, especially with Mario Kart: Double Dash around the corner. However, it has since developed a cult following due to the unique City Trial mode that sees players upgrade their abilities and rides throughout the session.
