Indie card game Balatro surpasses five million sales, creator asks fans to play more indie titles

Balatro, the solo-developed poker-themed roguelike, has surpassed five million sales less than a year after its release, prompting its developer to encourage fans to try other titles from fellow indie creators.
The details:
After selling over two million units by August of last year, the popular deck-builder has now sold over five million copies across all platforms, according to a post on X. The game is available for PC, mobile, Mac, and all major consoles, but it appears that the Apple Arcade "Balatro+" has not been included in the total.
In the announcement post, its developer, LocalThunk, has used the game's success to urge fans to check out other indie titles, after sharing a list of his favorites earlier this month. βThe last few weeks have been pretty wild,β the post reads. βTo everyone who picked up Balatro after seeing it at The Game Awards, we hope you're having an amazing time with it! If this is your first time picking up an indie title, try to make it a habit! There's some amazing stuff out there!β
The boost in sales comes after the game gained popularity on social media due to its addictive nature, lovable joker mascot Jimbo, and scoring multiple wins at The Game Awards in November. Despite the game's popularity, LocalThunk has chosen to remain anonymous, and in an interview with GQ, he stated that he somewhat regrets its success, as game development was once just a hobby.
