Helldivers 2's Steam launch is bigger than all other PlayStation PC launches combined
Arrowhead Game Studios' shooter has been a massive hit in terms of sales and reviews, with a concurrent player count on Steam over the weekend that exceeded the peak of all other PlayStation Studios titles on the platform.
The details:
Helldivers 2 has quickly gained popularity following its February 8 launch on PS5 and PC, reaching a concurrent player peak of 409,367 on Steam this weekend. This is the highest number of concurrent players for a PlayStation PC release to date, surpassing God of War's record of 73,529 and the company's total of 300,359 across all releases.
The unexpected success of the launch has also resulted in the game surpassing the all-time concurrent player count of other major Steam releases, including Rust, Destiny 2, and even the highly anticipated PC release of Grand Theft Auto V.
The game's popularity has caused numerous issues with its servers, which have become overloaded as a result of the unexpected number of players attempting to jump in, prompting the implementation of a 450,000 player cap. Arrowhead took to X over the weekend to confirm that it is currently looking to increase server capacity, which should help to fix bugs in in-game queues, rewards, and matchmaking.
