Sega confirms its Crazy Taxi reboot will be a "AAA" release
A Sega studio involved in the project has confirmed that the upcoming reboot of the Crazy Taxi franchise will be a AAA title.
The details:
A new report from the Japan Times has revealed more details about the game, including the fact that it is being co-developed by Sega's Sapporo Studio, which was founded in 2021. Studio president Takaya Segawa explained how the developer collaborates with other studios to create other Sega titles, including Crazy Taxi. “We’re responsible for titles such as Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage in cooperation with the bases in Tokyo and overseas,” Segawa said. “We are also participating in the development of triple-A titles, including Crazy Taxi.”
Despite its involvement in the game's development, the studio currently does not have "any titles developed independently," though this is likely to change in the future. It is currently unknown which Sega studio is leading the project.
Sega announced the reboot, along with a number of other titles in development, as part of its "new era" in December 2023. This included reintroducing Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and other titles in new games that retain the classic style and gameplay of their predecessors while adding new features and improvements.
