Epic increases rewards scheme to 20% returns ahead of Fortnite's return to iOS

Epic Games has announced that players who use its own payment systems for in-game purchases across its titles will now receive 20% of the original purchase value in reward points, as the company prepares to re-release Fortnite on iOS.
The details:
Fortnite was removed from Apple's App Store in 2020 after the tech giant claimed Epic violated its rules by accepting payment for in-game items through an external website in order to avoid paying the App Store's 30% fee. This resulted in a lengthy legal battle between the two companies, with Apple being found to have violated an injunction and regulations, forcing it to accept third-party payment services on its store.
With the game's return to the platform, Epic has reworked its Rewards scheme, which was launched in 2021, to encourage players to use its own payment systems. Starting today, all Epic Games Store purchases will be rewarded at 20% of the item's value rather than 5%. The deal is permanent for the company's biggest first-party titles, Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League, but will end on August 31 for all other purchases.
Users can redeem their points for discounts on future purchases, including microtransactions, DLCs, and subscriptions like Fortnite's Fortnite Crew service, which now awards $2.40 in points each month.
Fortnite is set to return to iOS this week, following Epic CEO Tim Sweeney's announcement last week that the app had been submitted to Apple for review. Despite Apple's claim that "90% of submissions are reviewed in less than 24 hours," the game is still not available in all regions, particularly the US and the UK, but has been available in Europe since it returned to the storefront in August 2024.
