EA has confirmed that F1 series developer Codemasters has been hit with layoffs just days after announcing the end of its partnership with World Rally Championship.

The details:

  • Last week, the publisher announced that it would no longer work with World Rally Championship (WRC), which granted Codemasters an exclusive license to continue developing its long-running series of branded rally racing games back in in 2020. Since then, it has only released EA Sports WRC 2023 and is now "pausing development" on all future rally games.

  • However, EA has confirmed that it is "reducing roles" at Codemasters, with some employees moving to other internal EA Sports projects. “As a business, we are constantly evolving to meet the growing needs of our players and driving greater focus across our portfolio,” an EA spokesperson told VGC. “This has led us to look at reducing some roles, while we redeploy as many as possible against our strategic priorities.”

  • It is unclear how many employees have been affected by the job cuts, which come after additional layoffs at EA last week. The publisher announced the cancellation of several projects, including a new Titanfall game, resulting in the loss of up to 400 jobs across the company.
