Fortnite is now officially available on iOS in the US following a five-year legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, and the European version has also returned after being removed from the App Store last week.
The details:
After being removed from the App Store in 2020, Epic has announced that Fortnite is now available again on Apple devices in the United States through the App Store, as well as the Epic Games Store and AltStore in Europe. “Fortnite is BACK on the App Store in the U.S. on iPhones and iPads... and on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in the E.U,” the developer wrote on X. “It’ll show up in Search soon!”
This comes less than a week after Epic CEO Tim Sweeney hinted that Apple may have prevented the app from returning after the company was forced to resubmit the game for approval when Apple failed to respond to the request. This also resulted in Fortnite's removal from the EU App Store. Yesterday, US Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ordered Apple to allow the game on the App Store in the US after Epic filed a complaint, resulting in both parties resolving the issue, as reported in a joint legal notice.
Fortnite first disappeared from the App Store after Epic sued Apple over its policy of taking a 30% cut of all in-app purchases, prompting Epic to attempt to avoid the fee by redirecting users to its own store. Multiple rulings since then have ordered Apple to lift its ban on external purchases and remove fees for using non-Apple services, resulting in Fortnite's return to the US. However, those in the UK will have to wait until the second half of 2025 to get their hands on the game.
