Fortnite is finally back on iOS devices globally as Apple and Epic's legal battle continues

Fortnite has returned to Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPad in almost every country worldwide except Australia, as Epic Games declares it is entering the “final battle” of its long-running legal battle with Apple over App Store fees.

The details:

  • As announced via an official blog post, Fortnite is now back on the iOS App Store worldwide except in Australia, following its earlier return to the U.S. store in 2024 after nearly five years. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney calls this “the beginning of the end of the Apple Tax worldwide,” arguing that once courts force Apple to disclose its real App Store costs, regulators will no longer accept what Epic describes as “excessive” fees of up to 30% on in-app purchases made on Apple devices.
  • Australia remains the only major country in the world where Fortnite is not playable on iOS. Epic states that while it won its court case against Apple in the region, the iPhone creator is still enforcing the “unlawful” terms, causing Epic to refuse the reintroduction of Fortnite until further action is taken.
  • The move comes after U.S. courts found Apple had willfully violated an earlier injunction over its anti‑steering rules, leading to stricter orders that prevent Apple from blocking external payment links or charging commission on purchases made outside its in‑app payment system.
